The Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has emphasised the potential for significant revenue growth in Nigeria through investments in the air cargo sector.

Speaking to reporters after the commissioning of the newly refurbished Bola Tinubu International Airport, Minna, on Monday, March 11, 2024, Mrs. Kuku highlighted the importance of proper infrastructure and strategic initiatives in driving economic development.

Representing the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, at the occasion, Mrs. Kuku expressed gratitude to the Niger State Governor, Honourable Umar Mohammed Bago, for the swift completion of the project.

She noted that the renovated airport would contribute to the enhancement of the state’s gross domestic product.

“The overhauling of the runway and construction of the passenger terminal in a very short timeline was a daunting task that required much expense and synergy between all parties involved,” Mrs. Kuku stated. “I am indeed grateful that this project will forever be seen as a symbol of our nation’s dedication to advancing infrastructure, enhancing connectivity, and fostering economic growth.”

Highlighting the role of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, Minna, as a gateway to the world, Mrs. Kuku outlined FAAN’s commitment to facilitating trade, tourism, and collaboration on a global scale.

She stressed the need for investments in key areas to address the significant losses incurred annually due to perishable goods, estimated at N 3.6 trillion.

“We are excited about His Excellency’s promise to complete the Cargo and International Terminals within a short time,” Mrs. Kuku remarked. “We encourage him to do so as we cannot wait to assist the ambitions of the state to become the biggest food producer and exporter in the country.”

The decision to rename the Minna International Airport after President Tinubu was hailed as historic and befitting by Mrs. Kuku.

She attributed the move to the visionary policies and implementations by the current administration, symbolizing a new chapter in the development of the aviation industry.

“President Tinubu’s commitment to progress, innovation, and excellence is evident in all his policies and programmes,” Mrs. Kuku affirmed. “At FAAN, we are pleased to have partnered with the visionary leadership of the Niger State Government, led by Governor Bago, on this project.”

Mrs. Kuku extended her gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the project, including consultants, FAAN engineers, construction workers, government officials, and FAAN staff involved.

The commissioning of the Bola Tinubu International Airport, Minna, marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to enhance air transportation infrastructure and drive economic growth through increased exports.

With continued investments and strategic initiatives, the country aims to capitalize on its potential as a major player in the global air cargo sector, further boosting revenue through exportation of agro produce.
