Nigeria: Aviation unions laud Captain Chris Najomo’s leadership
In a striking demonstration of effective leadership, unions within the Nigeria’s aviation sector have commended the Acting Director-General, Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo, for ushering in a new era of optimism and progress in the industry.
During the celebration of Workers Day in Lagos, Comrade Remi Aderinkomi, Chairman of the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), NCAA branch, praised Najomo’s leadership style, citing his attentiveness to workers’ concerns and his proactive approach to addressing them.
Aderinkomi highlighted Najomo’s commitment to enhancing staff welfare through various initiatives aimed at improving working conditions.
He noted that under Najomo’s stewardship, notable achievements include convincing foreign airlines to reduce ticket fares, supporting Air Peace in launching the Lagos-London route, liberalising the registration process for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and drones, revitalising audit-compliant airlines like Max Air, achieving outstanding results in the ICAO security audit, and fostering industrial peace.
Aderinkomi emphasised that Najomo’s agenda aligns with the developmental priorities outlined by the aviation minister, particularly focusing on workers’ welfare.
He urged detractors to reconsider their stance, asserting the unwavering support of NCAA workers for Najomo’s leadership.
Aderinkomi stated: “His agenda is in consonance with our aviation Minister’s developmental agenda for Nigeria aviation which has workers welfare as one of the priority areas. The AG, DG NCAA, Captain Chris Najomo has been working assiduously and is doing a beautiful job of redeeming the whole of our members in NCAA as well as all the workers of aviation”.
“I want to advise every faceless and offshore blogger, reporters who are trying to destroy Captain Najomo’s towering image that they should learn and drop all their antiques because we, the workers of the NCAA, are solidly behind Captain Najomo.
“We the workers, we challenge everyone to conduct an assessment on the leadership of captain Najomo, anyone can discreetly talk to NCAA workers or to any aviation worker, whether in the public sector or the private sector, so as to gain further insight into the compassionate personality of Captain Najomo that we are talking about here.”
Similarly, Comrade Diepreye Stephen, Chairman of the National Association of Aircraft Pilot and Engineers (NAAPE), NCAA branch, expressed gratitude for the strides made under Najomo’s leadership.
Stephen highlighted Najomo’s dedication to staff welfare, citing the clearance of long-standing arrears and improvements in contract staff conditions.
“As soon as he came, he said, ‘my staff, your welfare is my welfare as well.’ He did not end there, our rent arrears have been owed for long, he moved to the minister and got his approval, but as I speak to you right now, he ensured everybody has been paid their rent arrears and this has brought a lot of joy to the staffs,” said Stephen.
He stated further that Najomo’s implementation of an Open-Door Policy has facilitated better communication between management and workers, leading to more effective resolution of welfare issues.
Both unions pledged their steadfast support towards realising Najomo’s vision of positioning NCAA as a regulator of repute in the aviation sector.
