Nigeria: Chinese national pleads self-defence in girlfriend’s death
Frank Geng Quangrong, a Chinese national, is facing accusations of culpable homicide in connection with the tragic death of his girlfriend, Ummulkhulsum Sani Buhari.
Quangrong vehemently denied intentionally causing her demise and instead claimed self-defense during his testimony before Justice Sunusi Ado Ma’aji of the Kano State High Court on Tuesday.
Quangrong asserted that he stabbed Ummulkhulsum in self-defense, recounting an incident from September 2022 when he claimed she aggressively grabbed his testes.
“I didn’t kill Ummulkhulsum intentionally but stabbed her in self-defense after she grabbed my testes,” he stated in his defense, urging the court to consider mercy in its judgment.
The PUNCH reports that court proceedings unfolded with both prosecution and defense counsel presenting their final written addresses.
The prosecution, relying on six witnesses, including the deceased’s mother and sister, a neighbour, a doctor, and Investigative Police Officers, alleged culpable homicide against Quangrong under Section 221(b) of the Penal Code.
Despite the testimonies, Quangrong maintained his innocence, leading to the fixing of March 29, 2024, as the judgment date by Justice Ado Ma’aji.
As the case unfolds, the court will ultimately decide the fate of Frank Geng Quangrong, considering the conflicting narratives presented during the trial.
