Nigeria Customs Cancels Import Declarations During 4% FOB Implementation, Directs Stakeholders to Recapture Entries

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the cancellation of all import declarations made during the brief implementation period of the now-suspended 4% Free-on-Board (FOB) charge on imports.

The Service has directed affected importers, customs agents, and stakeholders to recapture their entries to ensure a seamless clearance process.

The decision, outlined in a statement issued by the NCS, is aimed at maintaining clarity and consistency in customs operations, preventing disruptions in the clearance of goods.

Stakeholders have been urged to promptly reprocess their declarations through designated customs processing platforms, with assurances that necessary measures have been put in place to facilitate a smooth transition.

Customs Commands across the country have been directed to provide the required assistance and clarification to importers and agents who may need support during the recapturing process.

The move underscores the Service’s commitment to aligning with government fiscal policies in line with the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, ensuring that policies are implemented through robust stakeholder consultation and dialogue.

According to the statement, the cancellation and subsequent recapturing of declarations reflect the Service’s dedication to efficient service delivery and its goal of being a public-centric organisation.

Under the leadership of Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the NCS reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and openness in its engagement with stakeholders.

Traders have been encouraged to take advantage of the recapturing opportunity to prevent any further delays in the clearance of their consignments.

The announcement follows the NCS’s earlier decision to suspend the controversial 4% FOB charge, a move that had generated significant debate among importers and trade stakeholders.

The Service assured that it remains focused on enhancing trade facilitation while upholding government policies that promote economic growth.
