Nigeria Customs Clarifies Viral Video on Mosque Demolition at Customs Secondary School Idiroko

The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command, has addressed concerns raised in a viral video circulating online that alleges the demolition of an ongoing mosque construction at the Nigeria Customs Secondary School, Idiroko.

According to a press statement signed by Hammed Bukoye Oloyede, Chief Superintendent of Customs and the Public Relations Officer for the Command, investigations reveal that the mosque project had been initiated without the necessary approvals and contradicted the established master plan for the school and junior barracks.

The Customs statement clarified that adequate facilities already exist within the Command’s jurisdiction for religious activities.

These include mosques and a chapel located throughout the Command’s area, as well as places of worship within the residence of the Customs Area Controller (CAC) and in both the senior and junior officers’ barracks.

Additionally, the existing mosque in the junior barracks was recently renovated and expanded under the direction of the Officer in Charge of Building, underscoring the Command’s commitment to supporting religious practices.

To resolve the situation and promote unity within the Customs community, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller James Ojo, has pledged to personally oversee the foundation of a new mosque at a designated location within the premises.

Comptroller Ojo has also committed to ensuring the mosque’s construction is completed in accordance with the Command’s protocols, providing support for its timely establishment.

In the statement, the Command called upon stakeholders to exercise patience and respect in handling sensitive religious matters.

Comptroller Ojo further urged the school administration to maintain harmony and foster positive relations within the barracks community.

This assurance from the Nigeria Customs Service aims to put to rest any misunderstandings while emphasising the Command’s dedication to inclusivity and religious accommodation.
