Nigeria Customs Donates Writing Materials, Food to Over 1,700 Pupils in Kebbi
The Kebbi Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has demonstrated its commitment to corporate social responsibility by providing educational support and nourishment to over 1,700 pupils of the Gwandu Emirate Model Primary School in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.
During a charity visit to the school on Tuesday, 10 December 2024, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Iheanacho Ernest Ojike, distributed writing materials, including books, pencils, and biros, as well as foodstuffs to the pupils.
The gesture, described as a hands-on investment in the leaders of tomorrow, underscores the Customs Service’s dedication to fostering national development beyond its traditional duties.
Speaking at the event, Comptroller Ojike highlighted the importance of the visit, stating that it aimed to educate the pupils on the role of the Nigeria Customs Service in the national economy and the enforcement of federal laws.
He urged the young learners to familiarise themselves with the detrimental impact of smuggling on the economy and advised them to steer clear of such unlawful activities.
“This outreach is not just about charity but also an opportunity to instil knowledge about the laws of our nation and the pivotal contributions of Customs to economic stability,” said Ojike.
Receiving the donations on behalf of the school, the headmaster, Malam Aminu Sani, expressed gratitude, describing the initiative as a testament to the compassionate and responsible nature of the Nigeria Customs Service.
He noted that the gesture would go a long way in supporting the pupils’ academic pursuits.
Representing the Gwandu Emirate Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Bashir KKB Galadiman Gwandu conveyed the emir’s commendations.
He noted that Alhaji Iliyasu Bashir, the Emir of Gwandu and Chairman of the Council of Chiefs, appreciated the contributions of the Kebbi Customs Command, extending blessings to Comptroller Ojike and his team for their kind-hearted initiative.
The event exemplifies how government institutions like the NCS can play an active role in community development, leaving a positive impact on future generations while promoting societal awareness about national responsibilities.
