Nigeria Customs Postpones Gala Night to Honour Late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja
In a show of respect for the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the postponement of its highly anticipated Gala and Award Night, originally set for Friday, 15 November 2024.
The event, planned to celebrate the achievements within the Customs community, has been deferred to honour the memory of a national hero whose dedication to Nigeria’s security and welfare remains indelible.
The decision, communicated through a statement signed by Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer for the NCS on Thursday, reflects the agency’s commitment to standing in solidarity with the nation during this period of mourning.
Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, extended his deepest condolences to the family of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, the Nigerian Army, and the entire Armed Forces.
“Lt. Gen. Lagbaja was a leader of immense dedication and sacrifice,” stated CGC Adeniyi. “His contributions to Nigeria’s security and inter-agency cooperation are immeasurable. We stand with the Nigerian Army, his family, and all Nigerians in honouring his memory and service.”
In postponing the Gala and Award Night, the NCS seeks to acknowledge the gravity of this moment. Lt. Gen. Lagbaja’s legacy has left a profound impact across Nigeria’s security apparatus and beyond, with his exemplary leadership and unyielding commitment to service inspiring colleagues and citizens alike.
The NCS assured stakeholders, partners, and invited guests that a new date for the event would be announced in due course.
The NCS conveyed appreciation for the understanding and patience of all involved.
The agency’s gesture of respect shows its commitment to fostering unity and cooperation among security agencies in the country.
