The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) came together on Saturday, 17 August 2024, for a 5km walk aptly named “Work-Life Balance” in a remarkable display of unity and collaboration.

The event, co-led by the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, and the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Muhammad, aimed to foster a stronger partnership between the two critical agencies.

The walk, which commenced at 6 a.m. from the FRSC Headquarters, saw a significant turnout of officers and men from both organisations.

The route covered Herbert Macaulay Way, extending to the Wuse Market traffic light, and looping back to the FRSC Headquarters via Maputo Street.

This symbolic journey underscored the agencies’ commitment to health, fitness, and inter-agency collaboration.

Following the successful completion of the walk, CGC Adewale Adeniyi expressed his determination to fortify the relationship between the NCS and the FRSC, particularly in combating the menace of smuggled vehicles on Nigerian roads.

He highlighted the importance of the walk in enhancing camaraderie and building a spirit of friendship among security agencies.

Adeniyi stated, “I am very sure that all my officers and I have really enjoyed the outing. I promise that moving forward, we will be part of this exercise every month.”

His words resonated with the event’s underlying goal of promoting unity and mutual respect between the agencies.

He further urged the officers of both the NCS and the FRSC to embrace the spirit of brotherhood in executing their duties.

“I have always reiterated that there are many things we can do together. I implore us all to continue exploring ways to work together because we are stronger when we are united,” Adeniyi said.

He emphasised the need for synergy in their systems to prevent smuggled cars from slipping through the cracks, ensuring that every vehicle on Nigerian roads is duly registered and compliant with the law.

Corps Marshal Shehu Muhammad, in his remarks, underscored the significance of organising such social activities between sister security agencies.

He expressed his belief that these interactions are not only beneficial for building a prosperous nation but also crucial for the well-being of the personnel involved.

“I am optimistic that such outings will improve our health and well-being. We all know that good health is not just wealth but also freedom and the best blessing God gives mankind,” Muhammad remarked.

He reiterated the importance of maintaining a healthy workforce, which he believes is key to enhancing productivity within the agencies.

Muhammad also extended his heartfelt appreciation to CGC Adewale Adeniyi for personally attending the event with his full team, stating, “I want to sincerely appreciate the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, who is here with his full team.

“This demonstrates the strong partnership and brotherhood between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Federal Road Safety Corps.”

The event concluded on a note of optimism, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to sustaining the partnership and continuing the monthly exercise.

Muhammad’s closing remarks captured the essence of the event: “What the Comptroller-General of Customs and his team showcased this morning reflects the spirit of love and good synergy between us, as Customs are brothers to the FRSC. I am confident this partnership will continue.”

The 5km “Work-Life Balance” walk not only served as a platform for promoting physical fitness but also reinforced the collaborative spirit essential for the effective functioning of Nigeria’s security agencies.
