Nigeria Customs Service Board Confirms Appointments of Two DCGs, Five ACGs

The Nigeria Customs Service Board (NCSB) has confirmed the appointment of two Deputy Comptroller-Generals of Customs (DCGs) and five Assistant Comptroller-Generals of Customs (ACGs) at its 60th Regular Meeting, held on Tuesday, 10 September 2024.

The meeting, chaired by the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Economy, Mr Wale Edun, took place at the new corporate headquarters of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Maitama, Abuja.

The newly confirmed DCGs are OA Alajogun and KI Adeola, while the new ACGs are IG Umar, MM Tilley-Gyado, BA Makinde, OA Salefu, and T Bomodi.

These appointments follow the retirement of senior officers and are in full compliance with the Federal Character Policy, as outlined in Section 14(4) of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.

In a major development, the NCSB also approved the establishment of a new ICT Department, upgrading the existing ICT Unit, following a resolution passed during the Board’s 59th Regular Meeting on 14 May 2024.

This upgrade is a key component of the NCS’s ongoing modernisation efforts aimed at enhancing digital transformation and operational efficiency within the Service.

DCG KI Adeola has been appointed as the substantive Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of the newly upgraded ICT-Modernisation Department.

She will be supported by an Assistant Comptroller-General and five Comptrollers, all tasked with ensuring the successful implementation of ICT initiatives that will bolster the Service’s operations.

Speaking on the appointments, Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, congratulated the newly appointed officers and urged them to intensify their efforts in critical areas such as revenue generation, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling operations.

He emphasised that their roles are essential to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

The confirmation of these appointments and the establishment of the ICT Department reflect the NCS’s commitment to maintaining operational excellence and adapting to modern challenges in a rapidly evolving global trade environment.
