The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has handed over two officers implicated in the maltreatment of individuals, captured in a viral video, to the Customs Police Unit for further investigation.

This development was disclosed during a media briefing held at the Seme-Krake Border Command by Comptroller Kayode Kolade, represented by Deputy Comptroller in charge of Enforcement, Istifanus Musa, psc.

Speaking on the incident, the Command noted that investigations commenced on Monday, 2 December 2024, following public outrage over the viral footage.

Preliminary findings identified two officers – Superintendent of Customs TA Inemugha and Assistant Superintendent of Customs II GO Aboribo – as the culprits.

Both officers have been arrested and will face a full-scale investigation to determine the extent of their culpability.

“The conduct of these officers is unacceptable and fails to reflect the professional standards and values of the Nigeria Customs Service. Our organisation is committed to upholding integrity and professionalism in all our operations,” stated Deputy Comptroller Musa.

He said the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, has expressed strong condemnation of the officers’ actions, describing them as a breach of ethical conduct.

CGC Adeniyi has directed their immediate transfer to the NCS Headquarters in Abuja for a comprehensive investigation and the implementation of decisive disciplinary measures.

He also called on the complainants to cooperate with investigators by providing necessary information to aid the inquiry.

Reiterating the Service’s commitment to transparency, Musa emphasised that the NCS would not tolerate any misconduct within its ranks.

“We are resolute in maintaining the highest levels of accountability and professionalism in the interest of the Nigerian public,” he asserted.

This action underscores the Service’s unwavering resolve to cleanse its operations of unethical practices and ensure public trust in its mandate.
