…strengthens partnership with DRDB for National Security

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging technological advancements to bolster national border security and facilitate trade.

This announcement was made on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, during a meeting at the NCS Headquarters, where Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi hosted a delegation from the Defence Research and Development Bureau (DRDB).

The DRDB delegation, led by its Director-General, Major General Emmanuel Ndagi, sought the NCS’s partnership to address critical national security issues.

In his address, CGC Adeniyi emphasized the importance of integrating cutting-edge technology into Customs operations to achieve significant economic growth and enhance security measures.

“I see a lot of possibilities that will continue to evolve between the Nigeria Customs Service and DRDB in the area of technology because we live in the age of technology now.

“We believe that any organization that ignores research and developments might be digging its own grave because, for us, the Nigeria Customs Service, the rapid change and dynamic nature of our environment presupposes the need for us to engage in technological development programmes constantly,” CGC Adeniyi stated.

He highlighted the Service’s initiative to employ geospatial intelligence to combat border crimes and the establishment of a special intelligence structure.

Additionally, the NCS’s Command and Staff College engages its students in periodic research and operations, further emphasizing the agency’s dedication to technological advancement.

Major General Emmanuel Ndagi echoed CGC Adeniyi’s sentiments, expressing optimism about the collaboration.

“Addressing these challenges with compassion and jointly developing technologies that address border security concerns will help us to fortify our border areas, and that is one key aspect that I want to seek the cooperation of the Comptroller-General of Customs to join hands with DRDB in partnership,” he said.

The partnership between the NCS and DRDB aims to coordinate significant operations at border areas across the country, enhancing national security and ensuring a robust trade environment.
