Nigeria’s infrastructural deficit in the aviation sector is said to be closing up very fast with the commissioning of ultra-modern terminals at two of the nation’s busy airports – Nnamdi Azikiwe and Port Harcourt International Airports.

The new terminals have been rated as having the best facilities that meet global standards, providing the needed atmosphere for prospective investors in the country.

At the commissioning of the new terminal/runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Thursday, President Muhammadu Buhari said the project was a significant milestone achieved by the Federal Government for International air travellers in and out of the Federal Capital Territory.

According to him, “Nigeria is moving towards achieving and meeting global aviation standards in facilitation, passenger processing and service delivery in tandem with international best practices.

The president also said that the new terminals (in Abuja and Port Harcourt) will boost the government’s policy on ease of doing business in the country and redeem the nation’s image at the international gateways.

“I am happy to note the progress being made in both the airports and sea ports on the implementation of the Executive Order on the Ease of Doing Business. Government officials manning these gateways are to sustain the momentum and ensure travellers in and out of the country have the best of experience as a necessary complement to the ultra-modern terminal,” said Buhari.

The President added that the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Terminal is the first airport terminal to be connected to rail transport system in the Country, noting that travellers now have to make choices from the pool of transport modes available to them.
