Nigeria: NCAA tasks airlines with prompt updates on flight disruptions

In a move to address recent flight disruptions causing inconvenience to air travelers, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has tasked airlines with prompt updates on flight disruptions to help travellers make informed decisions.

In a statement signed by Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, the NCAA said over the past few days, numerous flight delays and cancellations have led to frustration among air passengers.

Acknowledging the impact on travelers, NCAA expressed empathy for those affected and assured the public of measures being taken to address the issue.

The regulatory agency said ensuring transparency and timely information dissemination on flight disruptions will empower intending passengers to make decisions about their travel plans in light of ongoing challenges.

The NCAA noted that it is closely monitoring all aviation operations, with Consumer Protection Officers on the ground overseeing passenger handling procedures.

The agency said it is committed to ensuring that airlines implement measures to mitigate inconveniences, adhering to the guidelines outlined in the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations 2023 Part 19.

As part of these measures, airlines are expected to provide CARE (Customer Assistance, Refund, and Exchange), refreshments, and alternative arrangements to affected passengers.

According to the NCAA, this approach aligns with the commitment to passenger welfare outlined in the aviation regulations.

Assuring passengers of measures being taken to address flight disruption issues, the agency urged affected travellers to reach out to its Consumer Protection Desks located at the airports.

Alternatively, complaints can be lodged online through the official NCAA website at [www.ncaa.gov.ng](www.ncaa.gov.ng) or via email at cpd@ncaa.gov.ng.
