Nigeria: NDLEA arrests man trafficking Opioid pills to insurgents; pregnant woman, others nabbed in major drug busts
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have made significant arrests across several states, including the capture of a 42-year-old man smuggling thousands of concealed opioid pills to insurgents in the Banki area of Borno State.
Additionally, a six-month pregnant woman and several other individuals were apprehended for drug trafficking in separate interdiction operations.
In a statement on Sunday, the spokesperson for the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, disclosed that the 42-year-old suspected supplier of illicit drugs to insurgents, Ahmad Mohammed, was intercepted at the Bama checkpoint in Borno State.
Mohammed was found in possession of 20,000 capsules of tramadol intended for delivery in the border town of Banki.
In Anambra State, six suspects, including a pregnant woman named Amarachi Akaolisa and another lady named Ifeoma Iheanyi, were arrested for dealing in illicit substances.
The NDLEA seized over six kilograms of cannabis, tramadol, diazepam, and codeine syrup during raids conducted in Oraifite and Umuni-Evili.
The largest seizure was made in Nasarawa State, where NDLEA operatives intercepted a truck carrying 4,037 kilograms of cannabis sativa. Three suspects were arrested in connection with the haul.
According to the NDLEA, further arrests were made in Lagos, where two women, Boluwatife Adebayo and Omolade Fola Adebayo, were apprehended during raids. They were found with cannabis, codeine syrup, rohypnol, and molly.
In Abuja, two individuals were arrested with large quantities of compressed cannabis sativa concealed in a truck. Additional arrests were made in Ondo State, including a suspect transporting psychoactive substances to Gwagwalada in the FCT.
Other significant seizures and arrests occurred in Edo, Kano, and Benin, underscoring the NDLEA’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking across the country.
