Nigeria: NiMet collaborates with NIM for meteorological staff training
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) is set to collaborate with the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) to bolster the training of meteorologists, scientists, and other personnel.
The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, announced this strategic alliance during a courtesy visit by members of the Maitama-Abuja chapter of NIM on Friday, 19th January, 2024.
The NiMet DG emphasised the agency’s commitment to adhering to global standards, echoing the principles of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
Welcoming the delegation led by NIM’s chapter Chairman, Engnr. Abdul-Lawal Zubair, Prof. Anosike underscored the agency’s dedication to supporting its staff in enhancing management and leadership skills.
He referenced the directives of the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, SAN, highlighting NiMet’s alignment with the government’s vision for training and staff welfare under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“As a scientific agency, we aim to follow global standards in what we do. In line with the thinking of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), NiMet will support staff of the agency to improve their management and leadership skills.
“The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, SAN, has also harped on training and staff welfare. NiMet is committed to helping the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu government to achieve its vision in this regard,” Anosike said.
Professor Anosike, a fellow of NIM and a member of the Maitama-Abuja chapter, expressed gratitude for the solidarity visit, envisioning collaborative opportunities between NiMet and NIM.
He proposed that NIM play a pivotal role in capacity building, particularly in leadership and management training.
The director-general extended an invitation to NIM’s leadership for NiMet’s flagship event – the public presentation of the Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP), scheduled for Tuesday, 20th February, 2024.
He also proposed innovative collaborations, suggesting the creation of a forum where NiMet meteorologists could share data with younger NIM members and other stakeholders.
In response, Engnr. Abdul-Lawal Zubair congratulated Prof. Anosike on his appointment as the DG of NiMet, and affirmed NIM’s commitment to collaboration in the specified areas.
The visit culminated in the exchange of gifts between the two institutions and the decoration of Prof. Anosike with an NIM muffler, accompanied by a charge to positively represent the institute and its branch.
