Nigeria’s Minister for Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo has granted approval for the public unveiling of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency’s (NiMet) 2024 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP).
The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, revealed this momentous decision from the Minister’s office, stating, “The Honourable Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, SAN, has graciously approved our request to host our annual weather and climate prediction event on Tuesday, 20th February, 2024.
Prof. Anosike also highlighted a shift in approach, stating, “This year, we are doing it differently. We are involving the private sector because weather impacts all aspects of our economy, including agriculture, marine, oil and gas sectors, etc.”
Anosike disclosed further that NiMet, fulfilling its statutory responsibility, has crafted a draft for the 2024 Seasonal Climate Prediction.
He emphasised ongoing efforts to validate its content and announced the upcoming 2024 SCP Stakeholders’ meeting, slated for Tuesday, 23rd January, 2024.
During this meeting, according to Anosike, critical stakeholders will discuss the socio-economic implications of NiMet’s 2024 forecast on various sectors, subsequently incorporating these insights into the final 2024 Forecast document.
