Nigeria: NiMet issues three-day weather outlook, warns of sunny, hazy conditions

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency’s Central Forecast Office (CFO) has released a comprehensive weather outlook for the period from 00:00 on January 3, 2024, to 23:59 on January 5, 2024.

An overview of the forecast reveals:

Day 1 (Wednesday, January 3rd): The forecast predicts a sunny and hazy atmosphere prevailing over the North and North Central regions during the entire period. 

Meanwhile, the Inland areas of the South are expected to experience slight dust haze, while coastal cities may witness a few clouds in a hazy atmosphere.

There’s a slim possibility of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa states during the afternoon/evening period.

Day 2 (Thursday, January 4th): Similar conditions are expected to persist with a continuation of sunny and hazy weather in the North and North Central regions. 

Inland areas of the South and Coastal cities might see a few patches of clouds in a hazy atmosphere, along with isolated thunderstorms forecasted for parts of Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta states in the afternoon/evening period.

Day 3 (Friday, January 5th): The forecast anticipates a continuation of a sunny and hazy atmosphere over the North and North Central regions. 

In the Inland areas of the South and the Coastal belt, a few patches of clouds in a hazy atmosphere are expected. 

There is a chance of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Edo, Bayelsa, and Delta states in the afternoon/evening period.

The potential impact and advisory issued by the agency indicate that dust particles are in suspension, and the public is advised to take necessary precautions.

Individuals with asthma and other respiratory issues are, by this information, advised to exercise caution due to the present weather conditions.

Airline operators have been urged to obtain updated weather reports from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
