Nigerian Airspace Safer with Enhanced Surveillance, Says NCAA Acting DG
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of Nigeria’s airspace through enhanced surveillance measures.
The Acting Director General of Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo, made this declaration during the Authority’s annual New Year prayers at its corporate headquarters in Abuja.
The event, held every 2nd January, also marked the commencement of activities to celebrate NCAA’s 25th anniversary.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Captain Najomo highlighted that the Authority’s efforts in bolstering safety surveillance have significantly improved airspace security.
“Let me be honest with you, what Mr President has done with his Renewed Hope agenda, coupled with the Minister’s five-point agenda, has empowered us to perform even better,” Captain Najomo remarked. “Our directors are on ground, and we are committed to ensuring compliance across all airlines.”
He further disclosed that the Authority recently sanctioned five airlines for failing to refund ticket payments promptly, a move that has yielded positive results.
“They accepted their sanctions and agreed to pay on time. This year, 2025, we are committed to achieving even more in terms of compliance and safety.”
Addressing concerns about attacks and fabricated stories targeted at his leadership, Captain Najomo remained resolute, stating that such distractions would not deter him from delivering on his core mandates.
“The attacks are not affecting my work. There are no distractions. My confirmation is in the hands of Mr President, and when the time comes, he will do the needful. For now, I remain focused on my job,” he stated.
Captain Najomo also emphasised the Authority’s strides in improving staff welfare and work conditions.
He noted that the NCAA has embraced digital transformation to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.
“We are fully digitised. We now have a Flight Data Centre, the CPD portal, and the DATR portal to ensure seamless business operations,” he revealed, adding that these innovations underscore NCAA’s commitment to modernising its services.
The highlight of the event was the hoisting of the NCAA @25 flag and the unveiling of the anniversary monument by Captain Najomo, accompanied by his management team and staff.
The ceremony set the tone for a year-long celebration of the Authority’s achievements and contributions to Nigeria’s aviation sector over the past quarter-century.
With the assurance of continued diligence and innovation, the NCAA remains dedicated to safeguarding the skies and upholding global aviation standards.
