Nigerian teenage writer, Jemima to launch book on women heroism
A teenage author, Jemima Audu is set to launch her book ‘The Nigerian Woman’ A Collection of Heroism’ that explores the struggles and challenges of women in the Nigeria and Africa societies as they battle with all forms of discrimination and marginalisation.
The book, which is set in three parts, features ‘Ejura the Orphan,’ ‘Belikisu the amazon’ and ‘Abigail the Virtuous Woman’.
According to Jemima, the action-packed literary piece captures the struggle for emancipation from all forms of violence against the womenfolk and the need for societies to afford the girl child necessary education.
Speaking at a press briefing to announce the launch in Lagos, Jemima, an 11-year old student of the Murtala Muhammed Airport School operated by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in Ikeja, told journalists that the book was inspired by her passion to champion the course of women around the globe.
She said; “Every day I see and hear in the news how women are maltreated mostly in their matrimonial homes with some oftentimes having to fend for the children when the husband is either late or totally abandons his family.”
“All over the world, mothers and kids like me still face and suffer discrimination and various forms of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV).
“There is this continuous cry by my Nigerian mothers in rural communities for the government and concerned authorities to put in place policies and actions that will put a stop to discriminatory practices against women and protect them from patriarchal cultural norms and practices.
“I am lending my voice for the call to end these unacceptable practices through my book.”
On the book launch, organisers said it will take place on the 11th of October at the FAAN transit camp beside Caverton Helicopter at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammad Airport in Lagos.
Guests expected at the launch include the Attah of Igala in Kogi state, His Royal Majesty Matthew Alaji Opaluwa Oguche Akpa, a former Director of Human Resources and Administration of FAAN and elsewhere Chairperson of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Hajiya Salamatu Umar-Eluma and wife of Chairman of Air Peace, Mrs Alice Onyema among others.
