Nigerians are big spenders in the Gambia, says GTB Director

Talk about the wild world with beautiful landscapes in Africa, Gambia comes among the first, that’s where many Nigerians spend millions during holidays.

And because the Gambian Tourism Board has recognized Nigerians as the “big spenders” in patronizing its tourism, it keeps coming to the largest African Travel Market – Akwaaba – with a lure for more tourists.

The Director-General of the Gambia Tourism Board – Abdoulie Hydara, confirmed its participation at the 2019 Akwaaba slated for September.

According to him, “Nigeria is a very important market for Gambian tourism and the reason for our attendance at the Akwaaba trade fair every year.”

He said, apart from being big spenders, the two countries are in the same sub-region – Western Africa – with the proximity in space, time and relationship.

This makes it easy for the Gambians to penetrate the Nigerian market fully.

He added: “Many meetings are lined up during our presence in Nigeria to showcase what the Gambia has to offer to Nigerians.

Due to the importance we put in Nigeria, the Gambia tourism board will appoint a Destination Manager to represent the Gambia towards the promotion and marketing of destination Gambia in Nigeria.

The Gambia has lots of investment opportunities to offer to potential investors in Nigeria and the need to sell this among others in Nigeria.”

The Director of marketing of the Gambia Tourism Board, Adama Njie, also confirmed the importance of the Nigerian market in terms of its all-year-round tourism strategy.

With only four-hour flights, the Gambia is an ideal place for Nigerians.

The tourist attractions befit world-standard and worth all the money most Nigerian travellers would want to spend.

Gambian hospitality is an added boost to make visitors feel at home.

There is everything for every visitor – ranging from shopping, Honeymoon, conferencing, unbeatable gastronomy, good and standard hotels, to name a few.

“We hope that more businesses will come to the Gambia after our visit in Nigeria and by extension Ghana. The Gambia values a lot in sub-regional tourism and the reason for our attendance in Nigeria every year,” said Njie.
