Nigeria’s 2024 Budget: FG proposes N23.085 billion for aviation projects as ministry gets N63.31 billion
The Federal Government of Nigeria has allocated N23.085 billion in the proposed 2024 budget for the rehabilitation and repair of airport infrastructure, air navigational equipment and other developmental projects in the aviation industry.
Of this amount, N20.985 billion is designated for the rehabilitation and repairs of airport/aerodromes, while N2.1 billion is allocated for the rehabilitation of air navigational equipment.
Meanwhile, part of the 2024 appropriation bill shows that over N63.31 billion has been allocated for the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
The Ministry itself is slated to receive N39.80 billion, with additional allocations of N13,199,789,935 for the Nigerian Meteorological, N5,500,235,528 for the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology in Zaria, and N4,808,779,916 for the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).
Further breakdown reveals that the Ministry and its agencies plan to spend over N1.39 billion on various items such as refreshment, meals, welfare packages, and sporting activities.
Additionally, there are specific allocations, including N2 billion for the development of the Aerospace University in Abuja and N1 billion for the expansion of wing D and E fingers of Murtala Mohammed Airport (MMA) in Lagos.
Noteworthy allocations also include N500 million for ongoing safety and security critical projects and airport certification nationwide, with an additional N10 million budgeted for the purchase of fire trucks for airports.
Moreover, N60 million has been set aside for ongoing Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreements (BASA) and Multilateral Air Service Agreements (MASA) with countries such as Namibia, France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Portugal, the United Kingdom (UK), Russia, Senegal, Israel, Pakistan, Iran, South Africa, and others.
