Nigeria’s Aviation Minister orders suspension of Dana Air pending safety audit
Nigeria’s Minister for Aviation, Festus Keyamo has directed the immediate suspension of Dana Air’s operations until a comprehensive audit can be conducted.
The directive, issued by Dr. Emmanuel/C. Meribole, Permanent Secretary for the Minister, and addressed to the Director-General, Civil Aviation Authority (Nigeria), highlighted the paramount importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens and travellers.
The Minister noted that recent incidents involving Dana Air have prompted serious concerns regarding both safety protocols and financial viability.
According to Keyamo, the audit, to be initiated promptly, will encompass all aspects of safety procedures, maintenance protocols, and financial health to ensure full compliance with aviation regulations.
He stressed that the urgency of the matter necessitates swift and decisive action to safeguard the interests of all stakeholders involved.
The Minister emphasised the dedication to upholding the highest standards of aviation safety and expressed appreciation for the diligence of those tasked with conducting the audit.
Recall that Dana Air’s flight with registration number 5N-BKI overshot the runway in the early hours of yesterday – April 23, 2024, during landing at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced investigation to ascertain the cause of the serious incident.
