NiMet, CRMI Forge Alliance to Enhance Risk Management Practices
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has announced a collaboration with the Chartered Risk Management Institute of Nigeria (CRMI) aimed at improving risk management practices.
This initiative was highlighted during a recent courtesy visit by CRMI’s leadership to NiMet’s Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Charles Anosike.
The delegation, led by Mr. Victor Olannye, Registrar and Chief Executive of CRMI, included members of the Governing Council.
They briefed Prof. Anosike on CRMI’s activities, including its membership structure, upcoming seminars and conferences, certification programs, and available educational resources in risk management.
Mr. Olannye praised NiMet’s advancements under Prof. Anosike’s leadership, noting the agency’s significant contributions to mitigating risks in aviation and other sectors through enhanced meteorological services, early warnings, and weather and climate information.
He commended NiMet’s local and international recognition, attributing it to Prof. Anosike’s guidance.
“The Chartered Risk Management Institute of Nigeria (CRMI) has observed the impressive developments at NiMet under the leadership of Professor Charles Anosike as DG/CEO, such as provision of enhanced meteorological services, helping to mitigate aviation and other sectoral risks through its various early warnings, weather and climate information, capacity development for staff, etc.
“We also note the rising profile of NiMet locally and internationally under Prof. Anosike’s watch,” Mr. Olannye stated.
In recognition of these achievements, CRMI extended an invitation to Prof. Anosike to join its Governing Council and announced the decision to award him a fellowship of the institute.
Prof. Anosike acknowledged the evolving nature of risk management in light of climate change and emphasised NiMet’s role in climate risk management through its weather and climate forecasts.
He advocated for the inclusion of climate risk certification in CRMI’s curriculum, reflecting the growing importance of integrating climate risks into various sectors, including financial institutions.
“We welcome the idea to partner with the institute as I believe that the relationship will be mutually beneficial. CRMI, among other things, will also help NiMet to strengthen its risk management processes,” Prof. Anosike remarked.
He concluded by assuring that NiMet would consider CRMI’s invitation to join the Council, stressing the potential for a fruitful partnership.
