NiMet DG Honoured with African Public Sector Leadership Impact Award

The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Professor Charles Anosike, has been recognised for his exemplary leadership, receiving the prestigious African Public Sector Leadership Impact Award at the 2025 African Leadership Persons of the Year Awards.
The event, organised by the African Leadership Magazine, took place on Saturday, 22nd February 2025, in Casablanca, Morocco.
Professor Anosike was honoured for his transformational leadership at NiMet, a recognition of his dedication to advancing meteorological services in Nigeria and across the African continent.
The award underscores his contributions to enhancing weather forecasting, climate services, and disaster risk management, which have significantly benefited various sectors, including aviation, agriculture, and environmental sustainability.
The grand event celebrated distinguished African leaders across various sectors.
Among the honourees were President Andry Rajoelina of Madagascar, who was named African Political Leader of the Year, and President Bassirou Faye of Senegal, who received the African of the Year Award. Others recognised included:
Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State – African Outstanding Good Governance Champion Award
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State – African Leadership Public Service Excellence Award
Mr. Olusegun Alebiosu, Managing Director/CEO of First Bank of Nigeria Plc – Special African Banking Leadership Award & African Leadership Award for Banking Excellence and Financial Innovation
Dr. Seinye Lulu-Briggs, Executive Chairman, Moni Pulo Limited – African Philanthropist of the Year 2024
Professor Anosike received his award from H.E. Dr. Jakaya Kikwete, former President of Tanzania and Chairman of the African Leadership Organisation Advisory Board.
The occasion was graced by a host of dignitaries, further highlighting the significance of the awards in celebrating Africa’s trailblazing leaders.
With this recognition, Professor Anosike joins a distinguished list of African public sector leaders driving impactful change across the continent.
