The Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) paid a working visit to the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, as part of an Institutional Strengthening Initiative aimed at enhancing infrastructure and equipment at the College.

The visit, which took place on Wednesday, 24 July 2025, marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between NLNG, NCDMB, and NCAT.

It follows an earlier needs assessment visit conducted in August 2024, signalling a deepening partnership to address critical developmental needs in aviation education and training.

This tri-party collaboration is geared towards supporting infrastructural development and upgrading training equipment at NCAT, Nigeria’s premier aviation training institution.

The overarching goal is to elevate the quality of aviation training and ensure that Nigerian professionals remain competitive on the global stage.

Established by Act No. 31 of 1964, NCAT – formerly known as the Nigerian Civil Aviation Training Centre – was initially a joint project between the Federal Government of Nigeria, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

When the joint partnership ended in 1974, the Federal Government assumed full responsibility for its management. Today, NCAT operates under the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology Act of 2022, which expanded the institution’s mandate to include the provision of academic qualifications.

It is also fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

NCAT has earned international recognition as a centre of excellence, with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) awarding the College the honour of having produced the highest number of trained instructors globally for five consecutive years.

Additionally, NCAT is one of only four ICAO Training Centres of Excellence in Africa and holds the prestigious TRAINAIR PLUS Platinum Excellence status.

Speaking during the visit, stakeholders from NLNG and NCDMB expressed their commitment to supporting the College in its quest to maintain world-class training standards.

The intervention is expected to significantly boost NCAT’s capacity to deliver cutting-edge aviation training, ensuring that graduates are equipped with the technical knowledge, discipline, and professional integrity required in today’s fast-evolving aviation industry.

“This kind of industry support is vital,” said a senior NCAT official. “Given the pivotal role NCAT plays in the training and development of aviation professionals in Nigeria, partnerships like this one ensure that we remain aligned with global safety, security, and operational standards.”

As the aviation industry continues to grow and evolve, particularly in Africa, the partnership between NLNG, NCDMB, and NCAT represents a forward-thinking investment in the human capital needed to drive sustainable growth and safety in the sector.
