The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has said that normal flight operations have resumed at all commercial airports in Nigeria after the suspension of traffic “flow control” embarked upon by the Air Traffic Controllers earlier today.

Recall that the National Air Traffic Controllers’ Association (NATCA), earlier today being Tuesday 23rd November 2021, embarked on a three-hour flow control that was last for two days – 23rd and 24th November 2021, beginning from 0600UTC to 0900UTC to register its displeasure over the death of one of its members.

The association also issued a two-week ultimatum to the agency to improve its condition of service, among other demands, or it would embark on an industrial strike.

However, a statement signed by the Managing Director, NAMA, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu, said the agency has persuaded members of NATCA to suspend their warning strike action in order to pave way for dialogue between the NAMA management, the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and the National Air Traffic Controllers’ Association (NATCA).

The statement reads, “The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency wishes to inform the general public that following the intervention of NAMA management, normalcy has been restored, as the Flow Control, earlier embarked upon by members of the Nigerian Air Traffic Controllers Association today, the 23rd of November, 2021 has been suspended.

“The above suspension is to pave way for a follow-up meeting between NAMA management, Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and the association, scheduled to hold later today.

“Meanwhile, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) hereby wishes to reassure airspace users and the general public that the Nigerian airspace remains safe for seamless and economic air travel. We also regret any inconveniences caused earlier today.”
