NSIB Launches Investigation into Max Air Boeing 737-400 Incident at Kano Airport

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced a comprehensive investigation into the incident involving a Max Air Boeing 737-400 aircraft, which occurred at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport on the night of 28 January 2025.
The aircraft, with registration number 5N-MBD, was operating a flight from Lagos to Kano, carrying 53 passengers and six crew members.
It reportedly landed safely on runway 06 at approximately 10:48 PM local time.
However, during the deceleration phase, while still travelling at less than 60 knots with thrust reversers engaged, a loud bang was heard, and the aircraft suddenly veered sharply to the left.
The flight crew responded swiftly, regaining control and bringing the aircraft to a complete stop. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and all passengers and crew safely disembarked without incident.
In response, the NSIB immediately deployed its GoTeam to the site to ascertain the root cause of the occurrence.
In a statement signed by Mrs Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance at NSIB, the Bureau said investigation will thoroughly examine all technical, operational, and procedural factors that may have contributed to the event.
The NSIB reassured the public that the investigation will adhere to global best practices and aim to provide critical findings and safety recommendations to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The Bureau has pledged to provide updates as the investigation progresses, ensuring transparency and reinforcing its dedication to air travel safety in Nigeria.
