NSIB Launches Investigation into Runway Excursion of Cargo Aircraft at Abuja Airport
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced an investigation into a runway excursion involving a Boeing 737-400 cargo aircraft operated by Allied Air.
The aircraft, with registration number 5N-JRT, veered off the runway upon landing at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, earlier today.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:06 AM local time when the aircraft, operating flight AJK206 from Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, skidded off the right side of Runway 22 into a grass verge.
While there were no fatalities or injuries to the crew or ground personnel, the aircraft sustained significant damage.
Emergency response teams were swiftly deployed to the scene to ensure the safety of all personnel and secure the site.
According to a statement signed by Mrs Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance at NSIB, a Go Team has been dispatched to conduct an on-site assessment, recover critical data, and interview relevant parties to determine the causes of the incident.
