Ogun Customs Command Highlights 2024 Achievements, Hands Over Seized Cannabis to NDLEA

— Comptroller Shuaibu Reiterates Commitment to Anti-Smuggling, Revenue Generation
The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded remarkable achievements in revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations, according to its Customs Area Controller, Comptroller MS Shuaibu.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Idiroko Customs House on 28 January 2025, Comptroller Shuaibu outlined the command’s 2024 scorecard and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration.
Highlighting the command’s financial performance, Comptroller Shuaibu revealed that a total revenue of N275,835,406 was generated in 2024.
This revenue stemmed from baggage assessment collections, auction sales of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), and impounded vehicles.
He praised the diligence of customs officers and the cooperation of compliant traders in achieving this feat, noting that revenue generation remains a core mandate of the NCS alongside anti-smuggling operations and trade facilitation.
The Ogun I Area Command also made significant seizures of smuggled goods in 2024, reflecting its unwavering stance against illicit trade.

According to Comptroller Shuaibu, intelligence-driven operations led to the interception of various contraband items, including:
16,712 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50kg each)
139,881 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS)
940 rounds of live ammunition
71 sacks and 3,253 parcels of cannabis sativa
586 bales of used clothing
86 vehicles used for smuggling operations
18 units of foreign-used vehicles
2,150 used pneumatic tyres
760 pieces of donkey skin
3,766 cartons of frozen poultry products
85 bags of imported flour
The total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of these seizures stood at N1,267,504,035.

In the first 27 days of 2025, the command intensified its operations, leading to additional seizures, including:
2,002 bags of smuggled rice (50kg each)
6,180 pieces of cutlasses
6,375 litres of PMS
The DPV of these seizures in 2025 has already reached N77,476,185, underscoring the command’s relentless drive to curb smuggling and enforce compliance.
As part of its inter-agency collaboration, the Ogun I Area Command officially handed over seized parcels of cannabis sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Special Command.

The confiscated items included:
1,019 parcels of coconut-sized cannabis
25 parcels of book-sized cannabis
140 parcels of bread-sized cannabis
Comptroller Shuaibu reiterated that this handover aligns with the NCS’s commitment to combatting drug trafficking and fostering a safer society.
He commended the NDLEA for its efforts in tackling drug-related crimes and pledged continued cooperation between both agencies.
Expressing gratitude, Comptroller Shuaibu acknowledged the support of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his leadership and guidance.

He also lauded the officers and men of the Ogun I Area Command for their resilience, professionalism, and dedication in carrying out their duties.
Furthermore, he extended appreciation to stakeholders, traditional rulers, community leaders, and the media for their continued partnership with the NCS.
He urged the general public to play an active role in the fight against smuggling by providing credible intelligence that could help security agencies in their operations.
Looking ahead, Comptroller Shuaibu reaffirmed the command’s unwavering dedication to protecting the economy, ensuring security, and generating revenue for national development.
“As we continue in 2025, we remain resolute in delivering on our mandate to protect the economy, ensure security, and contribute to national prosperity,” he stated.
He assured the public that the Command will not relent in its efforts to curb smuggling, facilitate legitimate trade, and enhance revenue collection for the benefit of the nation.
