Overland Airways Resumes Lagos–Akure Flights to Boost Regional Connectivity and Economic Growth

Overland Airways has announced the resumption of its flight services between Lagos and Akure, the capital of Ondo State, in a move aimed at strengthening regional connectivity and supporting economic development in Nigeria’s South-West. The renewed operations are scheduled to commence on March 23, 2026.

The airline disclosed that it will operate flights on the Lagos–Akure–Lagos route six days a week, from Monday to Saturday, with a schedule tailored to meet early morning travel needs.

Departures from Lagos are slated for 8:30 a.m., while return flights from Akure will leave at 9:40 a.m., ensuring convenient same-day connectivity for business and leisure travellers.

In a statement accompanying the announcement, the Chief Operating Officer of Overland Airways, Mrs Aderonke Emmanuel-James, described the development as a significant milestone in the airline’s commitment to reliable and customer-focused air transport services.

She noted that the resumption of the Lagos–Akure route would enhance accessibility for residents of Ondo State and neighbouring communities, while complementing the airline’s existing Abuja–Akure–Abuja operations.

“Overland Airways’ resumption of flight services from Lagos to Akure marks a significant milestone in our commitment to providing reliable and convenient air travel services to the people of Ondo State and adjoining communities,” she said.
“With the existing Abuja–Akure flights, it strengthens our dedication to safe, excellent and customer-centric services. We welcome passengers back on board.”

The airline emphasised that the reinstated route forms part of a broader expansion strategy, which has seen Overland Airways restore services from Lagos and Abuja to key destinations across the country.

These include Ibadan in Oyo State, Warri in Delta State, Jalingo in Taraba State, and Minna in Niger State. The company also hinted at plans to introduce additional routes in the coming months.

Mrs Emmanuel-James added that the six-day weekly schedule was designed with passenger convenience in mind, particularly for travellers seeking early departures for business engagements or short trips.

“We appreciate the continued support of our customers and assure them of the consistent and reliable flight services that Overland Airways is known for,” she stated.

Overland Airways further highlighted its strong safety and quality credentials, noting that it recently became the first Nigerian airline to achieve ISO 9001:2015 certification.

This milestone complements over a decade of continuous registration under the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), as well as its membership of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The airline, which commenced operations in 2002, has built a reputation for providing scheduled and charter passenger and cargo services, with a focus on enhancing connectivity within Nigeria’s hinterland. Its fleet comprises modern aircraft, including Embraer E-175 jets, ATR-42s, ATR-72s, and Beechcraft 1900Ds.

Industry observers say the resumption of Lagos–Akure flights is expected to stimulate commerce, tourism and investment flows into Ondo State, reinforcing the role of air transport as a catalyst for regional economic growth.
