Oyetola unveils infrastructure boost for Onne Port, commissions Road “D” Project, Mooring Boats
In a bid to bolster the operational efficiency and facilitate business activities at the Onne port, the Honorable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, presided over the commissioning of the 4.8km Road “D” Project and the inauguration of six mooring boats.
The ceremony took place at the Onne Complex in Port Harcourt, marking a significant stride towards enhancing maritime operations in the region.
During his address, Minister Oyetola emphasized the Ministry’s dedication to leveraging Nigeria’s vast maritime resources, aligning with the directives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He underscored the importance of the newly constructed road infrastructure, executed by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and the deployment of mooring boats, as tangible steps towards maximizing the nation’s maritime potential.
Highlighting the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the NPA in addressing challenges hindering optimal utilisation of port assets, Oyetola emphasised the need to enhance efficiency and exploit the strategic advantages of Onne and other port complexes in the eastern axis.
These efforts, he stressed, are pivotal in achieving the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) outlined under the Presidential Performance Bond.
Recognising the growth in exports from the Onne Port Complex, Minister Oyetola affirmed the readiness of the Ministry to facilitate further expansion and advocate for increased vessel traffic to the region.
He stressed the importance of ongoing investment in port infrastructure to ensure Nigeria’s ports remain competitive regionally and globally.
Expressing gratitude to stakeholders for their support, Oyetola reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to realizing President Tinubu’s vision for harnessing Nigeria’s maritime potential for sustainable economic growth.
The commissioning of the Road “D” Project and mooring boats symbolises Nigeria’s determination to capitalise on its maritime assets for national development.
“Deepening the efficiencies and full capacity utilisation of the strategic advantages of Onne and other Port Complexes in the eastern axis constitutes one of the tools we are deploying in actualising the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) assigned to us under the Presidential Performance Bond.
“We are now poised more than ever before to give the NPA, all the backing necessary to address all factors responsible for the underutilisation of these national assets”, Oyetola maintained.
Earlier in his remarks, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Mohammed Bello-Koko, commended Minister Oyetola for his exceptional support, which facilitated the completion of the commissioned projects.
He highlighted the significance of the Road “D” Project in unlocking untapped potentials at the Onne Port Complex, paving the way for new business opportunities and increased revenue generation for the national economy.
