President of the United States of America, Joseph R. Biden Jr. has announced that he will not seek reelection, choosing instead to focus on his duties for the remainder of his term.

The decision marks a pivotal moment in Biden’s presidency, underscoring his commitment to the country’s best interests over political ambitions.

In his speech earlier today – July 21, 2024, President Biden reflected on the numerous achievements made during his administration, emphasising the robust state of the American economy.

“Today, America has the strongest economy in the world,” he stated, highlighting historic investments in infrastructure, affordable health care, and prescription drug cost reductions for seniors.

Notably, Biden’s administration has also extended critical care to one million veterans exposed to toxic substances and passed the first significant gun safety law in three decades.

Additionally, Biden celebrated the appointment of the first African American woman to the Supreme Court and the enactment of landmark climate legislation. “America has never been better positioned to lead than we are today,” he declared.

The President acknowledged the resilience and unity of the American people in overcoming monumental challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.

He praised the nation’s efforts in protecting democracy and revitalizing global alliances. “None of this could have been done without you, the American people,” he emphasised.

Expressing it as the greatest honor of his life to serve as President, Biden revealed that, despite his initial intention to run for a second term, he believes it is in the best interest of his party and the country to step down.

He conveyed his commitment to continue fulfilling his presidential duties for the remainder of his term and announced plans to address the nation later in the week with more details on his decision.

Biden extended his deepest gratitude to those who supported his reelection efforts, including Vice President Kamala Harris, whom he described as an “extraordinary partner.”

He also thanked the American people for their trust and faith in his leadership.

Concluding his address, Biden reaffirmed his unwavering belief in the nation’s potential: “There is nothing America can’t do – when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America.”

The announcement sets the stage for a new chapter in American politics, as the Democrats will search for a suitable candidate that will compete against the Republicans’ Donald Trump in the forthcoming election in November.
