Prof. Charles Anosike has officially assumed the role of Director-General/CEO at the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).

The transition ceremony, held at NiMet headquarters in Abuja, showcased the symbolic passing of leadership from the outgoing CEO, Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu to his successor, Prof. Charles Anosike.

During his inaugural address, Prof. Anosike underscored the pivotal role of meteorological services in propelling the sustainable development of the nation.

He emphasised NiMet’s multifaceted impact on various sectors of the economy, highlighting the agency’s integral role in shaping diverse aspects of national life.

Anosike articulated his commitment to elevating NiMet’s performance to world-class standards, recognizing the agency as a key player in providing crucial services across sectors. 

He expressed a clear vision for excellence and outlined strategic initiatives, pledging to leverage the commitment and support of the staff to ensure NiMet remains a beacon of precision and reliability in meteorological services.

The outgoing Director-General, Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu, extended warm congratulations to Prof. Charles Anosike, expressing confidence in his ability to steer NiMet to greater heights, expressing optimism about the transformative leadership that Prof. Anosike is set to bring to the agency.

Matazu stressed the collective responsibility of fostering a conducive environment for innovation and excellence within NiMet, and called on every staff member to support the new CEO, pledging unwavering dedication to collaboration for a harmonious and productive era under the new leadership.

In response, the new NiMet DG assured the outgoing CEO, stakeholders, and the public of his commitment to fulfilling NiMet’s mandate. 

To the outgoing DG and other retired Directors, Anosike pledged to follow their footprints by  fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement, expressing his intent to build on past successes to propel the agency to greater heights.

He said, “I will build on your success to rightfully instigate the mindset we need to move this agency to greater heights.”

The new DG also affirmed NiMet’s aspiration to emerge as a global leader in weather forecasting and climate information dissemination.
