The Port Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced remarkable achievements in its revenue generation and anti-smuggling efforts for the year 2024.

The command reported a total revenue of N288,392,717,427 from January to 6th November 2024, marking a 34.8% increase over the N213,914,304,888 collected during the same period in 2023.

This milestone reflects the command’s continued dedication to revenue optimisation and enforcement under the leadership of Comptroller Tenny Mankini Daniyan.

In an unprecedented development, the PTML Command set a new monthly revenue record in October 2024, amassing N44,021,583,356 – the highest monthly figure in the command’s history.

Comptroller Daniyan expressed his satisfaction with the achievement, attributing the command’s success to the relentless efforts of his officers, the cooperation of port users, and collaboration with other government agencies.

“The dedication of our officers and the compliance of stakeholders have enabled us to achieve this historic figure. I am confident that with continued hard work and support, we can set even higher standards,” Daniyan said.

Beyond revenue generation, PTML Command has been active in combatting smuggling.

In a series of anti-smuggling operations, customs officers intercepted contraband goods with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N28,478,034.

The seized items were discovered in two separate 40-foot containers and several vehicles, and included a variety of prohibited items, ranging from second-hand appliances to arms and ammunition.

Among the seized items in one container (No. ACLU9664782) were 2,598 pieces of used motor tyres, 12 washing machines, 6 fridges, and various other second-hand household items. Another container (No. ACLU9810594) was found to contain over 100 bags of premium parboiled rice in various sizes, alongside 18 kegs of soybean vegetable oil.

In addition to these, customs officers uncovered weapons and ammunition during vehicle inspections. Seized items included:

Twelve (12) rounds of 9mm Luger FC Black ammunition and one live round from a used Mazda CX5.

Ten rounds of NIM FC 30-30 blank ammunition, alongside two rounds of AK hollow ammunition, and other ammunition from a used Toyota Tacoma.

One SIGSAUER 1911 pistol and one Glock 22 pistol with multiple rounds of ammunition from various vehicles, including Toyota Sienna and Lexus RX350 models.

Three suspects detained in connection with these seizures have been granted administrative bail, according to Comptroller Daniyan.

Comptroller Daniyan reiterated the importance of diligence and national service as core values of the Nigeria Customs Service.

Emphasising the command’s mission, he stated, “We must rededicate ourselves to serving our country diligently, firstly as patriotic citizens and as customs officers with mandates to work for the development of our national economy.”

Daniyan also highlighted the support of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, psc(+), in enhancing the command’s capabilities with modern trade facilitation tools, including the newly launched B’Odogwu platform, which PTML Command is pioneering as a pilot project.

As the year-end approaches and with the festive season in sight, Daniyan urged his officers to maintain swift cargo clearance for compliant RoRo consignments while maximising revenue collection.

He emphasised the importance of thorough examinations to prevent concealment, under-valuation, and false declarations.
