SAHCO Acquires Advanced Ground Support Equipment to Boost Efficiency, Safety Across Nigerian Airports

Skyway Aviation Handling Company PLC has strengthened its operational capacity with the acquisition of ultra-modern ground support equipment aimed at improving aircraft handling efficiency, safety standards, and turnaround times across its nationwide airport network.

The company announced that the investment forms part of a broader strategy to modernise its infrastructure and maintain industry leadership through the deployment of cutting-edge technology designed for the demands of contemporary aviation operations.

At the centre of the upgrade is a newly delivered pushback tractor manufactured by Goldhofer, a globally recognised producer of aviation support machinery. The model, identified as the F300, is powered by a heavy-duty diesel engine and engineered to service most wide-body aircraft.

Built with rugged materials suited to challenging terrains, the tractor has already been deployed to one of the firm’s hub stations to reinforce service delivery and ramp performance.

In addition, SAHCO has taken delivery of five Ground Power Units produced by Guinault, a French manufacturer known internationally for aviation ground equipment. Each unit is rated at 45kVA on 115 volts and 115 on 28VDC, enabling them to supply dependable electrical power to aircraft systems while on the ground.

The GPUs run on fuel-efficient gasoline engines and are designed for portability, durability, and reliable performance in busy airport environments.

According to the company, the units are capable of supporting most Class A aircraft and selected Class B aircraft, while their compact design helps to reduce fuel consumption and operating costs. Their robust construction is also intended to ensure long-term reliability and flexibility in high-traffic ramp conditions.

Industry analysts note that ground support equipment plays a critical role in aviation logistics, as efficient ramp operations directly influence airline schedules, passenger satisfaction, and overall airport productivity. By investing in advanced machinery, handlers can shorten aircraft turnaround times, minimise delays, and maintain strict safety compliance.

SAHCO emphasised that the latest acquisition is part of its continuous investment in modern technology aimed at delivering world-class service to airline partners. The company highlighted its operational footprint across all commercially active airports in Nigeria, positioning itself as the only ground handling provider with such nationwide coverage.

The firm added that the new equipment further consolidates its standing as a leading aviation ground handler in Africa, driven by a commitment to innovation, reliability, and customer-focused solutions.

Established as a comprehensive aviation support provider, SAHCO offers passenger handling, ramp services, cargo operations, aircraft cleaning, crew transportation, and related support services across Nigeria’s aviation network.

The company says ongoing equipment upgrades and technological advancements remain central to its long-term growth and service excellence strategy.
