Sectoral collaboration critical to advancing aviation security, border management, says Keyamo
Nigeria’s Minister for Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo has called for collaboration between government agencies, private organisations and international bodies with a view to enhancing border management and aviation security in the country.
According to a statement signed by Tunde Moshood, Special Assistant for Media and Communications to the Minister, the call for sectoral collaboration highlights the Minister’s unwavering dedication to advancing Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure and operational efficiency.
Demonstrating his commitment to enhancing national security at the borders and airports, Keyamo, alongside the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, inaugurated the new Advance Passengers Information (API) and Passengers’ Name Record (PNR) office at the Nigeria Immigration Headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, held yesterday – May 15, 2024, Keyamo said the API and PNR initiative marks a significant advancement in border management and traveller identification, aimed at fostering efficient cross-border movement and bolstering security measures.
He emphasised the importance of collaboration and partnership in achieving sustainable advancements in aviation security, border management and other critical areas.
Following the inauguration ceremony, the Minister led a series of high-profile events to enhance air travel operations, beginning with an official visit to the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Kebbi.
Accompanied by Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and Alhaji Umar Faruk, Managing Director of the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Keyamo officiated the launch of Kebbi State’s 2024 Hajj operations.
The ceremony was graced by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Kebbi State Governor Comr. Dr. Nasir Idris, and the Sultan of Sokoto, His Royal Majesty Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar, highlighting the event’s importance.
Following the Kebbi event, Minister Keyamo supervised the departure of pilgrims from the Abuja/Nasarawa region at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, ensuring smooth logistics for those embarking on their sacred journey.
