Stakeholders to chart path for survivability of Nigeria’s aviation industry at LAAC conference

Stakeholders in Nigeria’s aviation industry are set to gather at the Providence Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos on Friday, July 26, 2024, for the 28th Annual Conference of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC).

This year’s conference, themed “Aviation Survivability Amidst a Challenging Macro-Economic Environment,” aims to address the pressing issues facing the sector.

Originally scheduled for July 25 at the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja, the event has been rescheduled and relocated to better accommodate the anticipated attendees.

The conference is expected to draw over 200 professionals from various segments of the aviation industry, including aviation agencies, security agencies, international and domestic airlines, aviation support services, travel service providers, and tour operators.

The theme reflects the current economic challenges impacting Nigeria’s aviation sector, such as poor access to foreign exchange, a weakening currency, high fuel and maintenance costs, inadequate airport infrastructure, regulatory constraints, growing manpower demands, the need for technological upgrades, and passenger comfort issues.

These factors have compounded the already existing constraints, necessitating urgent attention and collaborative efforts from industry stakeholders.

The conference will offer a platform for organizations to showcase their activities and innovations while fostering discussions on critical issues.

The LAAC, Nigeria’s leading aviation media body, has a longstanding tradition of enhancing the aviation sector through effective media coverage and public discourse on policy, management, and operational matters.

Over the years, the LAAC Annual Seminar has been instrumental in driving significant changes within Nigeria’s aviation industry.

Aviation businesses and allied organisations have historically utilized the conference for promotional opportunities.

The 2024 edition promises to be another valuable occasion for sponsorship and networking.

“This year’s conference is peculiar because it will focus on the industry’s survival and sustenance, which constitutes a major subject of discussion in a time like this,” said Mr. Chinedu Eze, Chairman of the LAAC Conference Planning Committee.

The conference will feature both physical and virtual participation, allowing stakeholders from around the globe to join the discussions and contribute to the future of Nigeria’s aviation sector.
