Security operatives at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, apprehended three unruly passengers on Wednesday following their disruptive conduct aboard an Air Peace flight from London.
The individuals, identified as Adedigba Adewale, Ashibogu Magnus, and Iwonze Benjamin, were taken into custody upon arrival after engaging in behaviour that posed a threat to the safety of the flight, its passengers, and crew.
The incident unfolded mid-flight when Adewale and Magnus, both originally seated in Economy Class, unlawfully forced their way into the Business Class cabin and refused multiple instructions from the crew to return to their assigned seats.
Their brazen disregard for protocol created a tense atmosphere onboard.
Despite several attempts by the flight crew to de-escalate the situation, the individuals remained defiant.
Matters worsened when they openly consumed a bottle of rum they had brought onboard, with Benjamin joining in the act.
Their actions not only violated airline regulations but also raised serious security concerns, prompting the captain to briefly leave the cockpit to assess the situation before retreating as a precautionary measure.
Recognising the gravity of the incident, the flight crew promptly alerted security agencies in Nigeria ahead of landing.
Upon arrival at Lagos, law enforcement officials swiftly moved in to detain the trio, who are now undergoing further investigation.
In response to the incident, Air Peace has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on disruptive behaviour, stressing its commitment to passenger safety and adherence to global aviation standards.
The airline commended its crew for their professionalism in handling the situation and preventing an escalation that could have jeopardised the flight.
Authorities are continuing investigations, and legal action is expected to follow.
