Tin Can Customs Command Unveils Renovated Office Complex Amid Historic Revenue Drive
The Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) achieved a historic milestone with the commissioning of its newly renovated office complex.
The event, graced by the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, marks a transformative chapter for the Command since its establishment in 1977.
Delivering a keynote address at the ceremony, the Customs Area Controller of the Tin Can Island Port Command, DA Nnadi, lauded the renovation as a long-overdue upgrade that reaffirms the Service’s commitment to excellence.
“This transformation is not just about modernising physical infrastructure but reflects the CGC’s policy focus on Collaboration, Consolidation, and Innovation,” Nnadi noted.
According to him, the newly renovated complex is expected to provide a conducive working environment, improving operational efficiency and service delivery. “A well-maintained office complex is key to achieving our core functions of revenue generation and trade facilitation,” Nnadi emphasised.
The renovation also underscores a renewed commitment to improving the welfare of officers and enhancing stakeholder collaboration within the port’s ecosystem.
The ceremony also provided an opportunity to highlight the Command’s remarkable achievements.
Nnadi announced that for the first time in history, the Tin Can Island Port Command has surpassed N1.125 trillion in revenue collection as of 2024.
This figure represents a significant leap from the N639.67 billion recorded in November 2023.
“This exceptional feat is a testament to the dedication of our officers and the positive impact of our reforms,” Nnadi remarked.
The revenue boost reflects robust enforcement measures, streamlined operations, and collaborative efforts with stakeholders, further advancing Nigeria’s economic development.
Beyond revenue collection, the Command continues to make strides in compliance enforcement and anti-smuggling operations.
Nnadi highlighted recent seizures of arms, unregulated pharmaceuticals, and other prohibited goods as evidence of the Command’s vigilance.
“These efforts safeguard the nation’s economic and security interests, ensuring all imports meet legal and regulatory standards,” he stated.
Nnadi commended the officers of the Tin Can Island Port Command for their commitment and diligence.
He also recognised the vital role played by stakeholders, including importers, clearing agents, and shipping companies, urging them to support the upkeep of the renovated facility.
“This renovation symbolises a shared responsibility. A clean and well-maintained environment is crucial for sustained success,” he remarked.
The Customs Area Controller expressed profound gratitude to CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi for his visionary leadership and unwavering support.
He also acknowledged the Nigeria Ports Authority and the Port Managers for their contributions.
In his closing remarks, Nnadi encouraged officers and stakeholders to uphold the standards of excellence established by the renovation, ensuring the facility remains a beacon of progress for years to come.
The ceremony concluded with a call for continued collaboration to build on the Command’s successes and sustain its legacy of excellence in customs administration.
