Tin Can Island Port Undergoes Renovation as Comptroller Nnadi Calls for Environmental Cleanliness
The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Tin Can Island Command, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, has reiterated the importance of maintaining a clean environment within the command amidst ongoing renovations at the Tin Can Island Port (TCIP).
According to a statement signed by PRO NN Okwara, Tin Can Island Port Command, Comptroller Nnadi, during a meeting with stakeholders,
called for a comprehensive overhaul of the bonded terminals to ensure a cleaner and more conducive atmosphere for business operations.
He highlighted that, while newly created bonded terminals within the TCIP have been allocated space for stakeholders to conduct their business efficiently, the same provisions have not yet been extended to the command headquarters.
Nnadi assured stakeholders that this issue would be addressed as the renovation work progresses.
In line with his 2024 theme, “A Year For Stakeholders,” the CAC emphasised the importance of stakeholders adhering to environmental cleanliness, stating that the maintenance of a clean environment reflects a healthy lifestyle and a more productive working atmosphere.
He advised stakeholders to ensure the cleanliness of the premises while awaiting the distribution of new waste bins in designated areas.
Speaking on the operational modalities for stakeholders who conduct daily business at the command, Comptroller Nnadi stressed the need for full compliance with regulations, especially as the command approaches the end of the year.
He commended stakeholders for their efforts in helping achieve the year’s revenue targets and urged continued cooperation to ensure the smooth flow of operations, particularly during the busy “ember” season.
Addressing concerns over delays, Nnadi assured compliant traders that they would not face unnecessary delays in the clearance process.
However, he issued a stern warning to those attempting to circumvent the system, stating that cutting corners would not be tolerated. “Those who attempt to bypass due process will have themselves to blame,” he said firmly.
As the discussion continued, Comptroller Nnadi opened the floor for questions, assuring stakeholders that their concerns would be addressed in collaboration with the Public Relations Officers (PROs) of the respective parties.
He reaffirmed his commitment to creating a conducive working environment and ensuring that all issues raised would be attended to as soon as possible.
The renovation work at TCIP continues as part of broader efforts to enhance the efficiency and productivity of the port, with a renewed focus on cleanliness and stakeholder well-being.
