The Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has achieved a historic milestone, recording N16.41 billion in revenue in just one day through the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), popularly known as Bodogwu.

The record-breaking feat was attained on Tuesday, 19 August 2025, and was hailed as a clear demonstration of technological efficiency and inter-agency collaboration.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Lagos by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Superintendent of Customs Oscar Ivara, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Frank Onyeka, described the development as “a strong indicator of the efficiency, transparency, and responsiveness of the Bodogwu system in streamlining port operations.”

According to Onyeka, the Bodogwu platform has drastically improved the ability of licensed Customs agents and port stakeholders to access payment systems and complete cargo clearance processes in real time, thereby eliminating delays and cumbersome administrative bottlenecks.

“The Bodogwu system has integrated all key elements of port and Customs operations into a single digital interface, enabling faster processing, accurate valuation, and enhanced monitoring of cargo activities,” he explained. “This has created a predictable and efficient environment for both the Command and port users, in alignment with Nigeria’s broader economic objectives.”

The Comptroller emphasised that the record figure was not merely about revenue numbers, but a reflection of the transformative role that digitalisation plays in port operations.

He noted that the achievement underscores the benefits of sustained collaboration with stakeholders, including terminal operators, shipping companies, licensed Customs agents, and regulatory agencies.

“This coordinated approach ensures that cargo clearance processes are seamless, compliant, and business-friendly,” Onyeka stated.

He further reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to strengthening trade facilitation, safeguarding revenue generation for national development, and supporting port users with timely and cost-effective cargo clearance.

The NCS at Tincan Island has in recent times intensified efforts to harness technology in optimising efficiency at the port, with the Bodogwu platform emerging as a central pillar in its modernisation drive.
