Nigeria: President Tinubu initiates major leadership changes in aviation sector
In a bold move aimed at elevating the standards of the Nigerian Civil Aviation sector, President Bola Tinubu has sanctioned a sweeping overhaul, including the suspension, removal, and replacement of key Chief Executive Officers in the industry.
According to the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the changes, which take immediate effect, signify the President’s commitment to consumer protection and the enhancement of the well-being of Nigerian passengers and sectoral stakeholders.
The revised leadership lineup is as follows:
1. Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN):
– Outgoing: Mr. Kabir Yusuf Mohammed
– Replacement: Mrs. Olubunmi Oluwaseun Kuku
2. Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA):
– Outgoing: Mr. Tayib Adetunji Odunowo
– Replacement: Engr. Umar Ahmed Farouk
3. Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB):
– Outgoing: Engr. Akinola Olateru
– Replacement: Mr. Alex Badeh Jr.
4. Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET):
– Outgoing: Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu
– Replacement: Prof. Charles Anosike
5. Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT):
– Outgoing: Capt. Alkali Mahmud Modibbo
– Replacement: Mr. Joseph Shaka Imalighwe (Acting Rector)
6. Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA):
– Suspended: Capt. Musa Shuaibu Nuhu
– Acting Replacement: Capt. Chris Najomo
Notably, the President has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conduct a thorough investigation into the activities of the suspended Director-General of NCAA, Capt. Musa Shuaibu Nuhu, along with other senior officials in the organization.
Additionally, President Tinubu has greenlit a meticulous process, led by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo to recruit a substantive Vice-Chancellor and other principal officers for the African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU).
The President emphasised that the new leadership must prioritise the safety, convenience, and comfort of the Nigerian people.
He insisted on the immediate establishment of world-class policy design, implementation, and regulatory frameworks to reposition the sector, aligning it with his Renewed Hope Agenda.
