Tragic Loss: Nigeria Customs Mourns Passing of SC Kabiru Tijani and Family

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Oyo/Osun Area Command, has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of Superintendent of Customs (SC) Kabiru Tijani, his wife, and their four children in a devastating fire.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, 2nd December 2024, at approximately 3:00 am, consuming their residence in Ede, Osun State.

SC Kabiru Tijani, an esteemed Officer in Charge of Operations at the Oyo/Osun Area Command, was renowned for his dedication to duty.

He played a pivotal role in leading anti-smuggling operations that significantly bolstered the Command’s success.

His wife, an active member of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) Oyo/Osun Chapter, was equally respected for her contributions to the welfare of the Customs community.

In a statement issued today – 3rd December 2024, the Command expressed its deep regret over the tragic loss and addressed circulating speculations regarding the fire.

“We urge the public to disregard unfounded reports about the inferno,” the statement read. “Our focus remains on providing support to the bereaved extended family, the lone child survivor, and conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident.”

The Customs Area Controller, Dr Ben Oramalugo, extended his condolences on behalf of the officers and men of the Command.

“This is an immense loss for the Customs community. We appreciate the prayers and support from the public during this trying time,” he stated.

The deceased have since been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.

SC Kabiru Tijani’s unwavering service, his family’s contributions, and their untimely demise have left a void deeply felt by colleagues, friends, and the wider Customs family.

The Nigeria Customs Service prays for the repose of their souls and for the Almighty to grant them Al-Janatul Firdaus, while also extending strength and solace to their surviving family and loved ones.

The Command has assured the public of its commitment to investigating the tragedy and ensuring justice and clarity for all concerned.
