UBA Expands Footprint to France with Strategic Partnership Agreement
The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has announced the signing of a landmark business cooperation agreement with the French Government to establish full banking operations in France.
In a statement issued by the bank, Tony Elumelu, the chairman of UBA Group, formalised the agreement with Antoine Armand, the French Finance Minister, during President Bola Tinubu’s state visit to France.
The ceremony was witnessed by President Tinubu and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, underscoring the strategic importance of the partnership.
Describing the deal as a milestone, the statement highlighted that the agreement signifies strong support from the French Government for UBA’s expansion into France.
Speaking at the event, Elumelu expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that it aligns with UBA’s mission to deliver seamless international banking solutions.
“This partnership reinforces our commitment to serving customers, not just across the 11 Francophone African countries we operate in, but also throughout Africa, and for French and European customers transacting with Africa,” he said.
Elumelu emphasised that Paris would become a vital hub for UBA’s European Union operations, joining its other international financial centres in London, New York, and Dubai.
“Expanding into France is a natural progression, as we continue to connect Africa and the world through innovative financial solutions,” he added.
With operations in 20 African countries and a presence in the United Kingdom, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and now France, UBA is poised to further solidify its role as a leader in retail, commercial, and institutional banking.
This expansion marks a significant step forward in the bank’s global strategy as it aims to connect international markets with Africa.
