UNA Breaks Regional Ground with Direct Abuja, Lagos to Accra Flights Beginning November 10

United Nigeria Airlines (UNA) says it will achieve a major operational milestone on Monday, 10 November 2025, as it commences its first ever regional flight operations, kicking off with direct, non-stop services from both Abuja and Lagos to Accra, Ghana.
In a statement issued on Saturday, 1 November 2025, the airline disclosed that Flight NUA 0590 will depart the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 10:35 a.m., and arrive at Kotoka International Airport, Accra, the same day.
UNA described the feat as a strategic chapter in its steady expansion plan and a significant contribution to strengthening regional air travel in West Africa.
The new service marks the airline’s first international operation since it commenced commercial flights in February 2021.
Describing the significance of the new route, the airline noted that the Abuja–Accra operation represents a rare, direct, capital-to-capital connection operated by a Nigerian carrier, and will serve as an enabler for stronger sub-regional collaboration in commerce, culture, investment, tourism, and people-to-people relations.
“This historic operation represents a direct capital-to-capital service between Abuja and Accra operated by a Nigerian carrier and underscores United Nigeria Airlines’ vision of fostering stronger regional integration, enhancing trade and tourism, and promoting cultural exchange across West Africa,” the airline said.
According to UNA, the Accra launch is the first step in a broader international growth drive, aligned with its mission as a unifying airline within Africa.
“The launch of the Accra route reflects United Nigeria Airlines’ commitment to our mission statement, ‘Flying to Unite.’ With this expansion, we reinforce our core values as a unifier of people, businesses, and opportunities across the region and beyond.”
It added that the flight goes beyond route expansion; it is deliberately positioned as a platform for deeper cooperation within Africa.
“This inaugural regional flight is not merely a business expansion; it is a bridge between nations. United Nigeria Airlines is proud to play a role in deepening economic, social, and cultural ties within West Africa. Our pledge remains to deliver safe, reliable, and world-class service as we continue to expand our footprint across the continent.”
The airline further announced that tickets for the Accra service are now on sale worldwide through its official website – flyunitednigeria.com – as well as through authorised travel agencies and Global Distribution System (GDS) booking platforms.
Industry analysts expect that the move will trigger competitive interest within the Ghana–Nigeria air travel market, especially at a time the sub-region is witnessing renewed business, tourism, and political activity driven by regional partnerships and negotiations.
The new flights come amid growing calls for improved intra-African connectivity – a critical objective under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) – with operators increasingly looking at routes that link key African economic capitals without routing traffic through Europe or the Middle East.
With this development, UNA joins the small list of Nigerian scheduled carriers exploring international destinations, and positions itself as a connector of major West African cities, aligning with larger continental aspirations for seamless regional connectivity.
