United Nigeria Airlines clarifies diversion of Abuja-bound flight to Asaba
United Nigeria Airlines has clarified an unexpected turn of events, where one of its flights – Flight NUA 0504, which was scheduled for Abuja, faced a temporary diversion from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MM2) in Lagos to Asaba International Airport on Sunday, November 26, 2023.
In a statement, the airline explained that the diversion was necessitated by unfavorable weather conditions at the original destination, Abuja.
The airline said the experienced pilot of the aircraft was well aware of the need for this temporary diversion and had been adequately briefed, ensuring the safety and security of all passengers on board.
Despite this, a momentary state of confusion arose among passengers upon landing in Asaba, as a wrong announcement was made by the cabin crew.
The misinformation added an unexpected layer of uncertainty to an otherwise controlled situation.
However, the airline clarified further that the aircraft landed safely in Asaba, and subsequently proceeded to its intended destination, Abuja, as weather conditions improved.
Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, the Head of Corporate Communications for United Nigeria Airlines, emphasised the airline’s unwavering dedication to ensuring a secure travel experience.
He noted that such unforeseen circumstances, while rare, are handled with utmost professionalism by the airline.

The statement: “A United Nigeria Airlines flight, NUA 0504, operating from the MM2 in Lagos enroute Abuja on Sunday, November 26, 2023, was temporarily diverted to the Asaba International Airport due to poor destination weather.
“At all material time, the Pilot of the aircraft was aware of the temporary diversion and was properly briefed.
“However, a wrong announcement was made by the cabin crew upon landing safely in Asaba, creating confusion among the passengers.
“Meanwhile, the aircraft has landed safely in Abuja following improvement on destination weather.
“United Nigeria Airlines remains committed to ensuring the safety of its passengers at all times.’
