Airline Hosts Strategic Agency Forum as It Expands Regional Network

United Nigeria Airlines has taken a major step towards the commencement of its highly anticipated regional operations with the hosting of its first Strategic Agency Forum in Lagos.

The event, held on Tuesday, 28 October, at the Protea Hotel, formed part of the airline’s final preparations for the launch of its Abuja–Accra and Lagos–Accra routes scheduled to begin on 10 November 2025.

The forum brought together an impressive gathering of leading travel agents and industry stakeholders from across Nigeria, including members of the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA), as well as representatives from Sabre, Wakanow, American Express Travels, Orih Travels, and several other top travel management companies.

Speaking at the event, Mrs Ifeoma Ekwerike, Head of Business Development and Strategy, highlighted the significance of the Accra route in the airline’s regional growth strategy. She noted that the Nigeria–Ghana corridor serves over 240,000 passengers annually, making it one of West Africa’s busiest and most profitable routes.

“United Nigeria Airlines is entering the Accra market with reliable schedules, on-time flights, competitive fares, modern aircraft, and attractive incentives for our agents. From November 10, we will operate daily direct non-stop flights from Abuja to Accra and four weekly flights from Lagos to Accra,” Ekwerike said.

The forum also showcased the airline’s operational progress. United Nigeria Airlines recently expanded its fleet with two Airbus A320-200 aircraft and one CRJ-900, bringing the total number of aircraft in active service to support its 14 existing domestic destinations.

In his address, Chief Operating Officer, Mazi Osita Okonkwo, commended travel agents for their continued partnership and reaffirmed the airline’s commitment to mutual growth.

He revealed that the airline is in the process of acquiring six Boeing 737-800 aircraft as part of its broader expansion strategy aimed at enhancing capacity, reliability, and customer satisfaction.

“Our agents are our representatives before the passengers and vital partners in our growth story,” Okonkwo said. “We are building a future of stronger collaboration, and we believe that the opportunities in Nigeria’s travel and tourism sector are immense. The future is bright for United Nigeria Airlines.”

Adding a touch of excitement to the evening, Chief Commercial Officer, Mr Raphael Uchegbu, rounded off the event with a lucky dip draw, rewarding several agents with return tickets to Accra aboard the airline’s inaugural flight next month.

As the countdown to the November 10 launch continues, United Nigeria Airlines has reaffirmed its commitment to its core mission of “Flying to Unite.” With its growing regional network and strengthened industry partnerships, the airline is positioning itself as a leading player in West African aviation connectivity.
