United Nigeria Airlines reaffirms commitment to establish MRO facility in Enugu
United Nigeria Airlines has announced plans to establish a Maintenance, Repairs, and Overhaul (MRO) infrastructure in Enugu State, a strategic move aimed at enhancing its operational efficiency.
Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, reiterated the airline’s unwavering commitment to this endeavor during a high-profile business meeting held at the Government House in Enugu on Tuesday.
Prof. Okonkwo emphasised that the airline has long harbored aspirations to solidify its footprint in Enugu by constructing an MRO facility alongside a strategic head office.
He further disclosed that United Nigeria Airlines is poised to expand its presence in Enugu with the construction of staff quarters, pending approval from the state government for land allocation.
“As the host state of our airline, it is crucial that our vision to establish an MRO facility, head office, and staff quarters receives the endorsement of the state government,” Prof. Okonkwo remarked, underscoring the significance of this initiative in bolstering the local economy and aligning with Governor Peter Mbah’s vision to attract more investments to Enugu.
Accompanied by the Airlines’ Director of Administration, Mr. Linus Awute, Prof. Okonkwo elucidated the manifold benefits associated with establishing an MRO facility and staff quarters in Enugu, citing potential economic expansion and alignment with the state’s investment attraction objectives.
In response, Governor Mbah extended his congratulations to Prof. Okonkwo on the third anniversary of United Nigeria Airlines and affirmed the state government’s unwavering support towards realising the airline’s ambitions in Enugu.
He commended the alignment of the airline’s objectives with the state’s business agenda, emphasising ongoing efforts to enhance the business environment in Enugu to attract more investors.
Governor Mbah also addressed concerns regarding security in Enugu, assuring stakeholders that the state government has implemented robust measures to mitigate insecurity and create a conducive environment for investment.
He reiterated the state’s commitment to fostering partnerships with the private sector for the economic development of Enugu.
To facilitate seamless collaboration between United Nigeria Airlines and the state government, Governor Mbah appointed his Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Obi Ozor, as a liaison to facilitate engagements and expedite the realisation of the airline’s initiatives in Enugu.
The announcement signals a significant milestone in United Nigeria Airlines’ strategic expansion plans and underscores the airline’s commitment to contributing to the economic growth and development of Enugu State.
