Unruly Passenger Causes Disruption on United Nigeria Airlines’ Lagos-Asaba Flight
United Nigeria Airlines has expressed deep regret over the disruption of its Lagos-Asaba flight, initially scheduled for 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 19th.
The delay, which caused significant inconvenience to passengers, stemmed from an incident involving an unruly passenger who physically assaulted a crew member after the aircraft doors had been securely shut.
In a press statement, the airline revealed that the disturbance caused by the individual lasted for an extended period, prompting the grounding of the aircraft in adherence to international aviation protocols.
The prolonged delay not only affected the Lagos-Asaba flight but also had a ripple effect across the airline’s network, potentially resulting in further delays and cancellations.
“We are deeply sorry about this disruption,” the statement read. “Safety is our utmost priority, and such incidents necessitate immediate action to safeguard everyone on board.”
The airline highlighted the seriousness of the offence, noting that physical or verbal assault against crew members is a grave violation under international aviation laws.
“Such behaviour not only jeopardises the safety and security of the entire flight but also disrupts the travel plans of fellow passengers,” the airline stated.
United Nigeria Airlines urged passengers to channel complaints or concerns through appropriate means, such as customer service hotlines or online feedback forms, to ensure efficient and respectful resolution.
The airline reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the highest safety standards, stating, “Safety is the very foundation upon which our operations are built. We take all necessary measures to ensure the well-being of our passengers and crew.”
Passengers were commended for their patience and understanding during the incident. United Nigeria Airlines extended gratitude for their continued support, expressing hope that such events would not recur.
