Workers’ Day: NAMA Set to Roll Out Improved Welfare Package for Staff

As part of ongoing efforts to prioritise staff welfare and align with the renewed vision of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has announced that it is at an advanced stage in finalising an enhanced condition of service for its workforce.
This development was revealed by the Managing Director of NAMA, Engr. Umar Farouk, during the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration held at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.
Represented by the Director of Air Traffic Services, Mr John Tayo, the NAMA boss emphasised that the agency was resolute in improving staff remuneration and working conditions in line with the aspirations of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, SAN, who has consistently prioritised workers’ welfare.
According to Mr Tayo, the agency has been in productive engagement with representatives of various aviation workers’ unions to reach consensus on the improved welfare package.
“We inherited a moribund condition of service at the inception of this administration,” Mr Tayo recalled, “but I am pleased to inform you that we have since executed that condition of service and cleared all outstanding payments.”
He added that discussions surrounding a new condition of service and the implementation of the national minimum wage are nearing conclusion.
“A joint committee comprising NAMA and union representatives has been established. Meetings, including one recently held in Kano, have advanced significantly. We are now at the final stage and expect to commence the payment of the new minimum wage shortly,” he said.
Mr Tayo assured staff that the enhanced welfare package reflects the commitment of the Honourable Minister, who has taken workers’ well-being as a cardinal priority of his administration.
“The new condition of service, though overtaken by events, will soon be activated. We have also introduced several new allowances into the existing scheme. Previously, there was nothing like outfit allowance—today, it is not only approved but paid in arrears. Very soon, you will smile; pretty soon, you will laugh,” he told the enthusiastic workers.
The agency, he noted, has also intensified training and capacity-building efforts for staff, both locally and internationally. “Last year, there was no training. This year, we have resumed training sessions for all NAMA staff. We will continue to engage the unions because we are part of you. We are behind you and remain committed to ensuring that our workforce is well taken care of,” he concluded.
The event, organised by the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), brought together aviation workers to commemorate May Day while reflecting on the strides and challenges within the sector.
